Více než 25 tisíc farmářů stále ručně obdělává a pečuje o 45 tisíc hektarů vinic. Údolí Douro je nejspolehlivější zdroj vyzrálých robustních červených vín plné chuti. The Douro wine-producing area is a breathtakingly beautiful region located in the Northeast of Portugal. The Douro River twists and turns along the Valley that claims the same name and has been witness to centuries of backbreaking work that has transformed a wilderness into a world class wine making region. Over twenty five thousand farmers still take care and manage the 45.000 hectares of planted vineyards. The Douro Valley is the most reliable source for robust red wines. Serious, big and often firmly tannic in their first few years of life, top Douro reds nevertheless have their own robust style of elegance, and often a complexity of flavour that comes from the mix of grapes, sometimes “vineyard blends” where old vines of mixed varieties are planted together. These are wines that age and develop well, their tannins softening, their fruit mellowing. |

Grape varieties: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca
Producer: Quinta da Ferradosa (Joaquim Calem) Winemaker: Cristiano van Zeller / Joana Pinhão Tasting Notes: Quinta da Ferradosa Douro Tinto (Red) is the result of a vineyard that is so diverse in grape varieties as it is in its soil types. This creates a wine, which is very concentrated on the nose and in the mouth reveals red fruits like strawberries and raspberries allied to floral notes. The tannins are present, and bring to the wine an incredible structure. The wine is then balanced by a marked freshness, making this Quinta da Ferradosa a very elegant wine. Vinification and ageing: All wine was produced at Quinta da Ferradosa winery. All grapes were first foot-trodden in traditional granite lagars before fermenting in stainless steel tanks (5000 Kgs). We then rack the resulting wines in new Allier French oak 225 litres casks from various coopers (Taransaud, Seguin Moreau, Nadalié and François Fréres), where they go through malolactic fermentation. All wines are then carefully aged for 15 months in barriques (75% new and 25% one year old French oak),keeping all different fermentations completely separated until the final blending takes place, just about one month before the bottling of the wines.
